So I decided to start a blog. I guess it’s always been in the back of my mind. In 1997, I took Computer Mediated Communication at University of Louisville. My instructor, Al Futrell, opined that eventually everyone would have a space on the Internet. I shrugged my shoulders and moved on with my life, which took me through a four year stint in the US Army, then Nursing school, and finally a career at the VA as a Nurse.
This past year or so it was time for me to have another impactful change in my life. This one not so good. Noticing my peripheral and low vision were declining, I pursued the care of another Optometrist whom immediately referred me to University of Kentucky Advanced Eye Care Clinic. The very first appointment I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a disease that will eventually strip the rest of my peripheral vision and ability to see in the dark.
One of my passions in life is hiking, and, well, anything outdoors. I have hiked over 400 miles in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, segments of the Appalachian Trail, including portions in Maine, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. One of my favorite memories is hiking in Colorado in September, 2022. The mountains were a tapestry of Aspen trees, showing their fall yellow colors, and evergreens. I hope that one of my first posts will be from this incredible trip, including a mention of my bout with altitude sickness. No fun.
As I learn the basics of blogging, I hope to continue hiking and experiencing God’s splendor. As I write this, it’s mid Winter here in Kentucky, yet the earliest wildflowers will emerge in March and begin the annual renewal of life. I hope to capture these images and share them in my own little space on the web.
